Star Shell Reflections 1916

Noteworthy among the many new titles published on the Great War during this Centennial Anniversary is Star Shell Reflections 1916: The Great War Diaries of Jim Maultsaid. Born to Irish parents living in Darby, Pennsylvania, Jim and his family soon returned to Ireland. At the beginning of the war in 1914, though a native born American citizen, he enlisted in the British Army and was wounded on the First Day of the Somme in 1916. During these years, although untrained as an artist, Jim kept a diary containing notes and colored sketches of life at the front. The physical diaries, long held by the family, are being published by Pen & Sword, (v.1 available now), and are a recommended addition to any library with collections on the Great War.
